what the MRLL is all about

GOAL OF THE MRLL

The goal of our work is to support an evidence-based approach to clinical rehabilitation practice

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO?

35.3% of all adults in the U.S. age 65 yrs. and older are living with disability

The rate of disability in older adults with the State of Utah is actually higher than the national average (38.6%).

In response to these issues, research in the Motor Learning and Rehabilitation Laboratory focuses on decreased motor function in older adults and after stroke.

Because of this we are interested in learning how the nervous system learns new motor skills and relearns existing ones during motor recovery following neural damage.

We study functional upper extremity movements, such as reaching, grasping, and object manipulation, which are involved in many activities of daily living.
